A pop-up roof for more space in the van - is it really necessary? Or wouldn't it be better to invest in a spacious motorhome? There is certainly no general answer to this question. While some prefer to travel with a motorhome or caravan, for others a converted minibus with pop-up roof is just the thing because it is suitable for everyday use. We give you an overview.

It doesn't always have to be a motorhome

Be on the road with your own van when, where and for how long you want. Just stop somewhere along the way and enjoy the scenery or spontaneously discover sights. Get close to nature and really relax. All you need is a camper van. Two people can travel comfortably in a van. For more, the pop-up roof offers additional space with two extra sleeping berths. Children in particular enjoy the view from the roof of the van - a holiday adventure.

The investment pays off

Some campers have a pop-up roof as standard. On others, we can easily retrofit one. But is it worth investing in a van at all? Definitely. Because with a pop-up roof, the resale value increases significantly, because such vehicles are always in demand. You will find more reasons here

Wide range of options for base vehicles and pop-up roofs

So what should it be? The possibilities are many. SCA offers the widest range of roof models on the market for a wide variety of base vehicles. From Citroën, Fiat, Ford, Mercedes, Nissan, Opel, Peugeot, Renault to Toyota and VW, suitable pop-up roofs are available for all common minibuses and panel vans.

Vans with pop-up roof as everyday vehicles

Unlike camper vans, a minibus does not have to be a mere camping vehicle. Because in everyday life it cuts a good figure, especially for families with children, if a few things are taken into account. The first thing to consider is that vehicles with a height of more than 2.10 m are generally not suitable for underground garages and car washes. Most minibuses remain below this limit - even with pop-up roofs. This is because SCA pop-up roofs are so flat that they only slightly increase the vehicle height. Attached solar modules are also no problem. So anyone who often uses car parks in everyday life should keep this in mind when choosing a vehicle. In principle, however, pop-up roofs do not impair the suitability of a minibus for everyday use. On the contrary: the possibility of being able to use two comfortable sleeping berths at any time makes you more flexible.

All safe

Even though the construction of a pop-up roof is definitely an intervention in the statics of the vehicle, there is no need to worry about safety. If you have a pop-up roof retrofitted in our S-Camper workshop, you will receive a TÜV-tested overall construction. The roof is robust and easily withstands all weather conditions, including thunderstorms and hailstorms. In addition, it is tested by the motor vehicle inspection.

Pop-up roof, high roof or lifting roof?

The jungle of technical terminology is vast. We have briefly described the three different types of roof.

The pop-up roof is a folding roof that is also used as a sleeping area. When it is not in use, the
Vehicle only slightly higher than in its original condition.

The high roof is a fixed installation that offers more space and also makes the vehicle higher.

The lifting roof is a vertical roof that is raised horizontally. It provides more headroom.
